Diablo is a hack'n slash action Role Playing Game (RPG) that was released in late 1996. And almost all gamers who like to play RPGs, have become a fan of it in a very short time. Then, in summer 2000, came the second title in the series, Diablo 2, which later became the favorite game of millions of gamers worldwide for many years. Even now, after more than 10 years, a large number of people continue playing this game and its various mods created by many fans.

Blizzard Entertainment, the creator of Diablo series, made an announcement on June 2008 that turned millions of fans' dreams into reality. They said that they had been developing the third game and trying their best to make it the best hack'n slash RPG ever.

While we are waiting for the release of Diablo 3, let me talk about what is so special about Diablo series, especially Diablo 2, that even after 10 years, the game is able to make itself played by a large number of gamers.

As a long term Diablo 2 player, I can say that this game has the right combination of characteristics an action RPG should have in order to keep the interest of the player alive for a long time. The first thing I want to mention is the story of the game. I really don't remember another game with such an interesting and captivating story. The game starts with an opening cinematic which tells the beginning of the story. Even at that instant, you can feel the greatness and the charm of the game. As you proceed through the acts, by the way there are 5 acts including the expansion, new cinematic videos continue telling the story creating an increasing curiosity and attention. I am quite sure that most of the Diablo players have watched those videos countless times to better get into the game world.

The game has three difficulty options as normal, nightmare and hell; where normal is the easiest and hell is the hardest. Once you complete the game in a difficulty level, the next one will be unlocked and you can continue playing with your character but this time with an increased difficulty and a more challenging world. Better items and greater fun comes with the increased difficulty, and that is the main point that makes gamers play it again and again.

As in all other RPGs, there is a leveling system in Diablo 2 as well. You gain experience by killing creatures and once you have enough experience, your character levels up. There is a level cap in Diablo 2, which is 99, and the game developers had implemented a unique idea which I find to be very successful. It is close to impossible to get to level 99, let me explain it like this: The amount of experience you need to gain a level, increases exponentially with each level and although the amount of experience you gain in the increased difficulty areas increase as well, after a certain point, (like around level 80) it takes more and more time to level up. This is brilliant right? What else could keep the players' focus on the game?

The item system in Diablo 2 is also a really unique and wisely crafted part of the game. Just like the three difficulty levels in the game, items also have three levels as normal, exceptional and elite. At the beginning of the game, you start with getting normal item drops and as you progress in the game and level up, item levels as well as their quality also increases. In my opinion, this system simply is what made Diablo 2 that much successful.

Additionally, all that magic, rare, unique and set items; miscellaneous gems, runes and the limitless combinations you can create, enrich the game and take it to a level where you will not get bored even after hundreds of hours of gameplay.

You now have a better idea about Diablo 2 and I highly suggest you try it if you haven't yet. I am sure you will like it if you are on good terms with action RPGs. Besides, it will be a good idea to do so before Diablo 3 comes out.

The Diablo series is the best PC game series ever made. Of course this is just a matter of opinion. A lot of people will say that World of Warcraft is the best RPG ever made but I disagree.

Diablo I was created by a group of programmers from a company called Blizzard Entertainment. The first title was just called "Diablo". In the first title you started off as 1 of 3 classes of characters and battled your way through many monsters, bosses and story line until you killed Diablo himself.

Diablo II came out next which was a much better game and they added 4 new classes of characters. They continued the story line and introduced new characters and added tons of new items. This game reigned in it's time and out of all the games I ever played (which is a LOT!) this game was always the best. I literally played it for 5 years.

At the time of this article this game had not been released however the mere trailers and teaser videos alone have got many people hyped up and looking forward to this 3rd version. They overhauled the game completely but kept all of the important elements which make Diablo the best in its class of hack n' slash. They kept the game in third person view but enhanced the graphics tremendously using directx 10. This is exactly was I was hoping they would do and I am very excited.

Diablo is a hack n' slash game. This means that you can attack or get attacked by many monsters in real time and your attacks are based on how many times you press buttons, etc. The skills on Diablo are setup so that you can switch between them quickly and created various strategies. Skill animations are notorious for looking beautiful in Diablo.

They went ahead and created Diablo III using DirectX 10. This makes for a much more pleasant visual experience due to details, physics and destructible environments. Third person view remains the same, thank God! I always said it would ruin the game if they went first person view like they did World of Warcraft.

Another one of Diablo's fun factors is the online play with parties of people interacting throughout the world. Diablo has always been free to play online but I have not seen if this will be true in the third version. Here is to hoping...

2 other distinct Diablo attributes is the endless addictive gameplay. Diablo was always built to randomly create dungeons and levels so that the replay value is tremendous. The extreme quantity of items, character and skill strategies, and weapon mods make this game extremely addicting.

Diablo 3 continues the story of the Sanctuary and of the way it was destroyed by the Armies of Hell. It does follow the lead of the two previous Diablo versions, but without depending on their storylines.

It has been over 10 years since there has been a new Diablo game and with the upcoming release of Diablo 3, players all over the internet are speculating on possibilities and new twists that could enrich gameplay in the latest Diablo game.

One of the most common speculations is whether or not we will fight angels in Diablo 3. If you have played Diablo 2 before, you know that there were three realms in the Diablo universe: Heaven, Hell, and Sanctuary (the "Earth" of Diablo). The primary plot of Diablo 2 was to defeat the demons from Hell which had invaded Sanctuary.

However, at the end of Diablo 2, you learn that Sanctuary was not created by the Heavens and that the humans which populate sanctuary are neither the sole creation of angels or demons but rather the combined efforts of the two. Furthermore, most demons and angels alike had no idea that Sanctuary existed and both sides were bent on the destruction of Sanctuary.

In order to combat these threats, the Worldstone was created in order to hide the existence of Sanctuary from both Heaven and Hell alike. The reason it had to be hidden from Heaven was that many of the angels considered Sanctuary to be an abomination and wanted to destroy it.

In Diablo 2, the Worldstone itself became corrupted and the game ended with the Archangel Tyrael destroying the Worldstone. When this happened, the world of Sanctuary was exposed to Heaven for the first time, revealing to the vengeful Archangels Sanctuary's existence.

As a result, it is very likely that we will have to fight at least a few angels in Diablo 3. It is rumored that the fourth and most difficult act in Diablo actually takes place in Heaven. Typically, Act 4 in the previous Diablo games has always taken place in Hell, so it will be interesting to go to the Diablo universe's Heaven for the first time.

If you are thinking this is just speculation, there is one thing which certainly confirms the fact that we will fight angels. If you open up your character sheet in game, you will notice that there is a new element that you can get resist gear for: Holy. You can now get equipment which reduces the amount of damage you take from Holy attacks.

This is a new stat for Diablo 3 as previously you never fought against enemies which were able to use Holy attacks. Demons do not use Holy energy for their attacks, so this means only one thing: that we will be fighting angels in Diablo 3.
